3:1-2 - The thing that stimulates wholesome thinking is recalling the Word of God.
3:3 - People scoff at faith and at God because it gets in the way of what they want. We let our selfish desires affect what and how we believe. We should believe what is true regardless of how convenient or inconvenient it is.
3:5 - they deliberately forget - Some people deliberately look the other way, because they don't want to have to acknowledge God.
3:8 - God is not bound by time like we are
3:9 - Patience - waiting for change and not merely embracing who we are. Tolerance means acceptance, but patience does not. god is patient waiting for us to change, but He does not okay or embrace who we are outside of His will.
3:11-13 - Because of all of this how should we live?
- Holy lives
- Godly lives
- Looking forward lives
Look forward - We spend so much time looking at right now or staring at the past that we live ineffective lives. We need to keep looking beyond this life to what God has promised is coming.
3:14 - spotless, blameless, at peace with Him
3:15 - Patience = salvation
3:17 - Be warned so you don't fall from your secure position. People struggle with the idea of whether you can fall away from Christ or not. there are verses that talk about our security in Christ and then verses that talk about the possibility of walking away from grace. The way I would understand it from this passage is that we are secure, much like a sniper in a hidden tower is secure, but we can fall out of the window if we choose to live reckless and unwise lives. God will never push us out, but we can abuse that grace to the point where we are hanging out the window and then a slip causes death.
3:18 -grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Love you all, Michael
I want to recommend a tremendous book to anyone who ever gets on this blogspot. Whether you are someone who is faithfully Christian or you are someone who doesn't go to church "because of all the hypocrites" or you are someone in between, I want to recommend you pick up a copy of the book "Prodigal God" by Timothy Keller. It could forever change your faith, your soul and the passion and purpose with which you live.
