Today

I read Matthew 5-8 and Colossians today. Good stuff. I have really liked reading through specific passages over and over for a time. It seems like it is a lot like water and the ground. When I flood my head and heart with Scripture it waters it, but a lot of it runs off and a lot of it evaporates. When I do a long, slow, continuous soak over several days or weeks it is like the Word of God is soaking deep into my soul. It takes longer, but it gets deeper. If you have never tried it pick a short letter from the Bible or 3-4 chapters from a specific spot and just read over them every day for 2 weeks and see what you see and hear and feel. You might be amazed. I imagine this is what meditating on the Scriptures means.

I had an absolute blast today coaching flag football for the 7-8 year old team.....and we got beat by 32 points. I love it when the kids get to score and win, but it was so neat today because I was able to talk to the kids about failing in life and still learning, about staying in the game when you are down and showed them how to encourage each other in defeat. Those are lessons that they will need for a lifetime. I sure hope they are encouraged.

Had a great talk on Thursday with a friend named Jason who is part of a church plant in Boise, ID. Check out the next post for what he taught me.

Love ya, Michael
